July 6, 1945 Trinidad Dear Dad & Mom: It's after ten oclock and I just got up, the morning was fairly cool so I could sleep. A native came around with some bananas so that was my breakfast. They were very nice large and fully ripe think they are like other fruit, better when ripened on the tree. Was just noticing the screen on the windows it isnt of metal but some sort of plastic. Guess the metal rusts out too fast the plastic has one disadvantage it will burn and I've seen places where some dumb clucks touched a cigarette against it. So you have turned dry cleaner think I noticed in the last Union Jack Knorrs place was to be closed for awhile this summer is that the reason? he couldnt stand the competition. Just got a letter thru Sqdn E. it's the first I've had and mailed the morning of the third so it takes an even three days for mail to come. I guess they will leave our ratings alone for awhile at least and the pay will remain the same. Whether I get paid or not the allottment should come thru and I get the [mine?] later. I'll make out
