July 11, 1945 Trinidad Dear Dad & Mom: Got your letter mailed the fifth last night, think it takes a day or so longer for the regular mail to come thru but that isnt much. So you've been reading up on this island paradise where I'm stationed havent been away from camp but once so havent seen much of it. The cane fields & sugar refineries do look much like Louisiana and the jungle where it hasnt been cleared is so thick you cant see ten feet into it. We landed at the place you mentioned and arent to far from it tho we're not allowed to say how far, what direction etc. Got in late in the afternoon and rode a funny little train out to this base. Very interesting ride looked almost like a Frank Buck jungle picture, they have those great big buffalo for work animals as well as other oxen, mules & horses. Yes Glenn Grimes landed where I left the U.S. from, made quite a jaunt up to Jimmies didnt it. I dont care to make a complete trip around the world either tho thought for awhile in Italy we might as there was talk of moving
