July 12, 1945 Trinidad Dear Dad & Mom: Just have some time for a few lines now for it's quite late. I napped after dinner and didnt wake as soon as usual. We had another party last night, the fellows who remain here out of the seventy sixth squadron had a good feed, steak sandwiches, ham, cheese, pressed meat, french fries, cokes etc. Drank so many cokes and ate so many sandwiches I thought I'd bust. Also had an orchestra, G.I. but very good and some native calypso singers who did a few numbers, all in all it was very successful. Bought a fresh pineapple this morning and it was delicious, sweet as could be. I always thought those you fixed at home required a lot of sugar. Must try a green coconut they taste like watermelons the fellows say who have tried them. The P.X. has some nice things in now, silk stockings, alligator hand bags, wallets etc. but I'll have to wait till pay day to get anything. Im afraid I cant get cigars after investigating cant ship anything home that has been shipped down here. Anything manufactured down here it's okay but in the states no go.
