July 21, 1945 Trinidad Dear Dad & Mom: I'm loafing today, taking the day off we are entitled to one day per week. Never took passes in Italy for I felt there was an important job to do but here I feel differently. Even tho I dont go to town I can write a few letters and read. It's quite comfortable in the barracks a good breeze blowing and when we're around the barracks most of us just wear shorts. One of our old gang is leaving for home today, being discharged on the age requirement. His papers went thru in a hurry he just applied for it a short time ago. He lives in Chicago I believe. Dont envy his being over forty but should like the discharge. Glad you folks got to take a ride down the Lafte hill it's pretty down that way. Isnt Hamm still out at the county home as manager or is he just investing. Expect Rob Wilson will make a good supervisor but I'm inclined to agree with dad that Bill Lauer would have been a better choice. While he's not particularly likeable he's very competant and would always let a fellow know where he stands on an issue. By the way how is Kenny Lahr getting along, havent
