July 23, 1945 Trinidad Dear Dad & Mom: Quite pleasant & cool today a fine breeze blowing thru the barracks. Rained so hard just before dinner it cooled things off thoroughly. If it wasnt for the breeze it would be sweltering. Got a letter last night and one this morning from you also the Des Moines service edition cant see why your letters come thru in three days and it takes mine five or six to get home. Its good there is such a fine hay crop this year, in case the grain is a little short there will still be lots of feed. Poor Anton will be haying all summer at the rate he moves. Glad the kids are helping him better than some seasons. Dont think I could get any clothes dont believe D. Johnson should have but maybe. The way most guys feel they never want to see any G.I. clothes when the war is over. No doubt there will be plenty available when we get out of it. The radio is playing a Fred Waring program which is very good. Nice quiet restful music. It's sure nice to have a radio again. Dont envy you your job painting that lawn furniture it is a job getting into all those cracks & crannys. They look nice when one has finished with the job however even if it does try your patience.
