July 24, 1945 Trinidad Dear Dad & Mom: I've been emptying out my duffel bag this morning and airing out the contents. Down here where everything is so damp everything gets to smelling musty and mildews easily. My sweater & wool uniform would soon have mildewed I think but the bright sunshine will fix that wont it? Is there anything one might use to prevent this? Had a birthday card & letter from Grandma yesterday, couldnt read much of the letter tho. She had inclosed a dollar which was very welcome under my present financial status. will be paid soon tho so I'll make out. Another fairly cool, breezy day, expect it's warmer at home than it is here. Heard over the radio that there is quite a heat wave in the states. I'll bet you can hear that old corn grow. Should help it to catch up with the season at any rate. Got up earlier than usual this morning, someone turned on the radio and I couldnt go back to sleep. Was quite interested in the clipping you sent about the turkeys down around Volga, sounds like quite an industry. Noticed the armed forces are going to get a lot more. Wish theyed just send it to his family and let each soldier go home to eat it. Think every G.I. would be pleased with that set up.
