July 27, 1945 Trinidad Dear Dad & Mom: Today we are going to get sheets & pillow cases issued to us. Sure glad to get them for the wool blankets are plenty scratchy. Also have a native boy for barracks orderly, he started to work this morning. All we have to do is sweep under and make our own beds. Had fish for dinner & it was punk. We have it every Friday so that's one day I eat light. I guess I'm kind of a finicky fish eater for it must be done about right for me to enjoy it. A good fresh bass or trout would hit the spot but not the kind we get. They are taking up our woolen clothes also, hate to turn mine in for its the first time in my army career that I have O.D's that almost fit. Like the battle jacket much better than a blouse too. I'll never forget the time I had with my first blouse. It's raining up in the hills now so it will move down here in a few minutes. If there's a patch of clouds as big as a postage stamp in the sky it can rain. Sure glad the lawn is so nice this year maybe the white clover will reseed itself & choke out all the dandelions & [plantain?]. Its pretty
