Transcribed by Josh Nichols July 28, 1945 Trinidad Dear Dad and Mom: This is my day off, so I'm taking it easy, just finished my book "Klondike Mike" which I enjoyed. I'm sure Dad would like it, one of our kind with plenty of action. The library here has lots of good books on hand. We have a questionnaire on our beds to fill out concerning courses being offered by the government. Never amounted to anything in Italy but perhaps it might here. I signed up for a couple and will see if my schedule will fit in with them and what they are. Got a card and note from Mrs. Mernere last night, is it her birthday that's the same as mine or does she just happen to always remember me? A regular scratch card, follow with [indecipherable] and all and another past card with an Iowa pig and is which I imagine Jim stuck in. The war news we've been getting the past few days sounds good. I take everything [indecipherable] as fast as possible and gets overseas. Seems as tho [sic] a lot of power can be brought to war on the island no bigger than it is. Guess the new prime minister is going to carry on with the war support much as Churchill did. Too bad about the Empire State building being damaged we heard about it this noon
