July 29, 1945 Trinidad Dear Dad & Mom: I've just finished cleaning up around my bunk for the big inspection coming up tomorrow morning. Have to do it before we go to work at four because we can sleep in the morning. The next thing I expect will have to work at night and then get up for inspections. Right now they're staging a big drive on military courtesy, proper uniforms etc which makes life generally unpleasant. Was going to the movie last night but it was such a punk one I didnt even bother. Havent been to a movie for an age not since long before I left Italy. They have stage shows once in awhile but so far none have fallen on my day off. August first they are having an open house at the field here, letting all the citizens of Trinidad in to inspect the ships, maintenance line etc. Dont see the reason for it but I wasnt asked. Im having an awful time trying to get this letter written, between people stopping to talk, the radio & other interruptions. There is a quiz program on and while I dont like them its distracting. Nearly time to go to work this afternoon
