Hotel La Salle Chicago April 5 1919. Dear Mother: As you see, this finds me in Chicago. The purpose is to attend the annual meeting of the American Association of Teachers of Journalism and, incidentally, to get a little change of scene and living. I find on arriving, however, that we do not meet until tonight, so I have several hours to spend. By calling up the Auditorium hotel I have discovered that Fred is in town. After I finish this letter I'll stroll over and see if I can date him for lunch. Chicago is pretty much excited today over the war situation, as it and every other community should be. We are
