The State University of Iowa Iowa City May 14, 1917 Dear Mother and Father: This will tell you that I am now wearing the olive drab. Uncle Sam has accepted me for training and has provided a shirt, coat, breeches, hat and various other kinds of property. He can't fit me yet in shoes, nor can he provide leggins, those will come later. I had to go through another physical test this morning, and it was a stiff one. But I managed to scrape through. Conditions are not favorable to writing now, so I shall postpone until later any lengthy letter. You can address me: Twelfth Company, Citizens Training Camp, Fort Snelling, Minn. Lovingly, Conger
