May 28, 1917 My Dear Boy We received yours of last night and was glad to know and hear of your being in good health and of the opinion you could withstand the hardship that must come out of so strenuous a drill I can well remember how glad I was to hear that old Bugle Sound the retreat after a drill from 2 until 4. I to remember how good Beans and boiled pork tasted at Supper after a hard afternoon. Sleep in open is another good thing I imagine the taps sounds quite good I remember how often I have stood out of tent and listened the different regimental buglers sounding taps away off in the woods and how I would like to hear it again. Well every thing is growing greatly corne up small grains never looked better the fruit crop will be a recordbreaker. every thing going our way we are both well and foxy
