halt, shoot. You should have seen that coon's eyes. I was down to Curtis Court one evening to see one of my classmates who is now ejicating the young of Minneapolis. She and her mother had just taken apartment in the new part. We went to the movies, ate ice cream at the little drug store across the corner, and sat in porch chairs chatting. It was very pleasant but I nevertheless thought of the last time I had been there and wished for you. Honest. It isn't the same place at all. There is to be a formal opening of the place Saturday night. I accepted Josephine's invitation to attend and dance with her. Why aren't you here to take me away from her? Lieutenant Strum has just returned, and is trying to distract me by reading in preacher's cadence from a booklet of the Gospel of St. John
