No 2 December 5, 1917 5 p.m. Ma Cherie,-- I have just received a telegram ordering me to Washington. I have until December 15 to get there. This forces me to wait here for the baggage for which I have wired and to delay my departure for Nevada until Friday night. Unless I am compelled by other developments which I cannot control to change my present plan, I shall walk in your pear tree garden not later than Saturday afternoon. Sorry I have to fluctuate in my advance notices, but I am really not to blame. C'est la guerre. Until Saturday! Con.
