married. Uncle Sam is largely responsible. When we learned that I should probably have to go to France soon, we decided that we couldn't fight the war without forming an alliance. The decision was not really made until Daphne and her mother arrived in Washington last night - or, at any rate, none of the details were settled. So I was unable to give you warning of what was about to take place. Indeed it was not until about two hours before the event that everything was determined. At shortly after noon we drove from the Shoreham to the Apartment of the Rev. Dr. James S. Montgomery of Calvary Methodist. Daphne's mother and my pal, Lieutenant Zimmerman were the only ones with us. The minister said a lot of solemn things, and we said "I will" - "I will," and we suddenly discovered that we were Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds. We had our wedding luncheon at the New Willard. This evening Mrs. Goodenough started back for Missouri, leaving us to find our way alone together in our great adventure. I need not tell you we are over-
