We have got back from drill and have been to dinner We went out with 2 guns and fired at a taggot. We fired about 28 rounds. it is fun to see the shells burst there. I shall have to stop for the present for we have got to go out and have a battery drill the whole 6 guns this after noon. I shall have to finish to night. I have just come in from drill. I found a letter here from John Stoll here. he is at Mound City yet he is well he thinks that they will winter there. I have had no letter from Alonzo yet I wrote to him Monday. I don't see why he don't write and let me know where he is. We had a review before Gen Barry the comander of camp Barry and all of the Arty on captol hill. We have orders to go over the river Monday where to I don't know. Last night three companys of the Vermont 1st Reg cavelry come in. They had all their horses and equipments. We shall get a new new suit of clothes tomorrow and then we shall go over the river Monday. We have got the hull number of horses to our battry 112 in all. They eat a pile of hay and oats We get the hay in bails the oats in sackes We have to pay $8 doll a cord for wood here. We are all in our tent now but Abe. Byron is reading the Mexico papers. We recd
