so Hallerick said in his report McClellen acted the wise mans part. We were as nere whiped as the rebs mortar won out and nothing to eat and a great many of our boys were barefooted. McClellen did not expect to have to fight Lee and Jackson to but you know that Harrpyes Fery was give up then Jackson reinforced Lee with 20,000 men which enabled them to hold out till after dark. The next morning early the rebs sent in a flag of truce and under this they skedadled but if we had know then as we do now why we could have driven the rebels in to the river an if we had known as much as we do now at the commencement of the war why the war would have been ended long ago. We could have called for 200,000
