He died sustaining his country [sic. country] as thousands have before him I feel the loss of Abiram as a brother for we have served our country [sic. country] over one year to gather in this teribel [sic. terrible] sturugel [sic. struggle] for our country [sic. country]. But he has gone now where trouble and trials and the roar of canon will disturb him no more. Father we are under marching orders. with 8 days rations in our haversacks and knapsack ready to move at a moments notice. We have sent off all of our extry [sic. extra] baggage have nothing with us now but blankets and our uniform, and our change of under close [sic. clothes]
