Washington, January Twelve. 1918 Sweetheart mine,-- Shortly after I had finished writing to you this morning the orders for the class came, and among them was one for me. I was not surprised. The conviction had grown upon me that my case was likely to come out that way. After choosing me once for intelligence duty it was not probable that the Chief of Staff would make the change of putting me at another kind of work and thereby make a hole to fill in the intelligence staff. For this work men of special qualifications are needed, and these are not numerous.
