visits in New York. The novelty of it proved interesting. Being a happily married man I was not particularly thrilled by Mr. Ziegfield's collection of pretty dolls, and I cannot say that I cared a lot for the series of vaudeville-musical comedy stunts that constituted the entertainment. But it was good fun to see the place, to observe how the crowd carried on, and to absorb a bit of the bright-lights-on-Broadway atmosphere. There was a vacant chair at our table which constantly reminded us that our party was incomplete without you. I insisted that the evening, while very pleasant, would be much more entertaining for my hosts as well as me if your cleverness were represented. They readily agreed with me, and we vowed that any future venture of the sort would have to be postponed until you were one of the circle. I'm afraid I should never become a devote' of the Frolic; it
