1/16/18 Dear Conger, Recd your fovor 12:18 this AM. Came here this PM for two or three days. This town is full of soldiers, Secret Service men & inspectors. Makes a fellow feel more and more like thirty cents. I would have been pleased if you did not have to go to the other side, but since it is apparently your duty to go, I would rather fortify you with encouragement than to send you sympathy.
