New York City, January 18, 1918. My very own,-- I didn't hear from you in Washington about the marking of the silver I had arranged to get as your birthday remembrance. And if you wrote about it, your letter has not been forwarded to me here. Under the circumstances I think the very wisest thing for me to do is to send you my check so that you can get the pieces you particularly want and have them marked in your own particular way.
