Also a business letter from Ernest. It scared me. Business letters always do -- or else bore me excessively. But where I am really concerned they sound so awful that they give me the same sensation as an approaching concert. Your mother spoke of Ernest's attempt to get in the Quartermasters Dept. Isn't patriotism a wonderful thing? It makes you willing to sacrifice all -- and at the time it doesn't seem like a sacrifice so much as a privilege. I am so proud of my soldier husband. I wish I might help in some way. If only I could nurse instead of teach! We at home must undertake the education of the "coming generation" while you all educate the Kaiser, I suppose.
