The general anxiety concerning the subs has greatly lessened, due no doubt to the fact that the realization that land is near has increased confidence that we shall make it. No one but the ship's officers really knows what time we shall reach the harbor, but rumor is strong that it will be by midnight. Now that a safe ending to the thrilling experience is in sight I'm beginning actually to enjoy it. It is my first taste of the reality of war's physical hazards. In several ways it has been quite as trying a test of nerves as anything I am likely to encounter. To
