oddity of the place. It's most as typical in its way as the Mitchell House is in its way. Honey, I have a lot of fun thinking about you. There are times when the agony of being away from you gets me pretty hard. But most of the time I hold to the pleasant phase of things. To be going into this business sustained and encouraged by your splendid love is an experience immeasurably grand. I can't help but think how shallow and empty it would have been any other way. I feel now the deep, ennobling spirit of service where before I was prompted by notions of boyish curiosity and the spirit of adventure. You have already made me a more purposeful, serious, patriotic soldier. I love you, dearest, dearest. I can't half express how much. All yours, Conger.
