now they are proving their mettle in the test of life in the trenches. I've seen just enough of that to know what a terrific test it is and to develop the highest respect for the bravery and fortitude of the boys who are up there in it night and day. I am still hearing tales of how our fellows fought the picked German storm troops in the affair at Seicheprey last Saturday that make me uncommonly proud to be even wearing the same uniform they do. They were out-numbered in some cases eight to one. Yet they fought like demons. Many of them died fighting rather than be taken prisoner or retreat. Our lines were at first pressed back by the terrific shell fire and the weight of the German assault. But they reformed and drove the Boches back to their own trenches. Don't you forget it the Boche is a tough one to fight. He is well
