Heiserer a furlough so he can come down to see her. I don't approve at all. I used to like Vincent, but he is made of very coarse material. In short, he is German. Nuff said. I tried to break things off between them once before, simply because he is not the type of man I want her to be crazy about. And now here comes a letter from Bert, saying he had talked the Captain into getting the furlough for Vincent, but in the meantime he had looked up Vincent's record and found that he is not in condition physically, to have anything to do with decent people. It is the most disgusting thing I ever heard of, and I couldn't forgive it in anyone. Of course, I wrote Bert and had him cancel the furlough, and have dictated a letter from Ruby to Vince. The whole affair is sickening. Am I wrong about it dear? Don't say I am, or I'll lose faith in you and God and everything else I love. I've learned more this last year than in all the rest of
