817-19 St SE Cedar Rapids, Iowa June 20, 1945 Dearest, Had Dora over for supper. Made some milk waffles and had strawberries on some, sorghum on others. Petraks gave me a box of berries day before yesterday and Dora stored them in her refrigerator until today. Irene had her operation at 10 this morn but is not out from under the anaesthic yet. They were disappointed in what could be done. She has so much scar tissue they couldn't get access to some cysts. They opened them and that would reduce the size but they had wanted to remove them. If you could write a letter to Jordan & Irene I don't know who else should have one more (you would let me be self-centered enough to say who after me, huh?). She has written you when it was just another thing to do, and Jordan & Irene have never tired to tell me how much better they know you. I took Dora home and called on Joanie & Bill. They are fine. Bill isn't working hard at Collins, but I don't think he is very rugged. Joanie just came off a case last night. I went to see if she would care for Irene. Jordan got 3 nurses for now, but one can't work after next Wed. She cared for Irene last year on general floor duty and she'll do private duty for her if she isn't on a case when they need her. June 21 I left this so it didn't get into the mail. I'll enclose it in with todays. Love, Laura
