817-19 St S.E Cedar Rapids, Iowa June 21, 1945 Dearest, The first day of summer and just a day or perfect weather. The longest day of the year and the sun wasn't pushed out by rain. We have had so much rain the season and it was been so cold we are accustomed to complaining about the weather. The corn is just a few inches high. It will hardly be knee high to a grass hopper this Fourth of July, let alone knee high to a human! I'm sitting on a bench on the Iowa City Hosp. grounds. I came to see Aunt Cora - Uncle Oscar's wife in Webster City. She wrote me she was going on June 18 and would I visit. So I asked Leone and Jack to ride down too. Leone is visiting some young woman in the hospital and I'm waiting. Aunt Cora came in on 18th and went out the same day so I didn't see her. As far as I'm concerned, this is an unnecessary trip. Aunt Cora should have sent me another card because she should know I try to do any request possible and that I'd probably come. I couldn't learn yet today how Irene Petrak is. Jordan didn't work but Earl hadn't heard. When I called him he said Hazel was with the Y girls and he hadn't seen Jordan yet. They think Jerry will be back by Saturday. I don't know whether they mean to the states or actually at home by then.
