2 No letter yet since the one you wrote June 4, & that got here on July 9. Now that it seems you will be home in a matter of months, the time you have been gone seems that much longer. I guess I didn't dare let myself think before of the military service you are giving as a unit of time that began in 1942 and ended ____ almost 37 months of service now, on your 30th overseas and 32 months since I saw you off in Des Moines. It isn't as long as many have had, and you are not only alive but well too. Suffering is relative; and we have not suffered like others. But we have been deprived of our normal life and we have tried to accept it gracefully. I don't wonder that civilians are resented by service men sometimes. I almost get annoyed sometimes and I am only the wife of a service man! I don't wonder that veterans feel they have more in common with veterans than others. It seems to me the common run war wife knows more of my point of view and understanding than smarter or as smart people who have never tried it. The Register had an article in it about war wives getting in a huff and writing to European service men that they knew they could come home if the men wanted to, and how the wives were threatening divorce! Jordan mentioned that article when we were visiting last night. He seems to realize that large numbers take time to shift. He apparently doesn't think you are staying to tour Europe! Ive said nothing about your trying to come home. If you have written that to anyone please tell
