see why we had so many volunteers for the galley here and none when on Guadalcanal. One can only guess about our stay at this camp. Perhaps it will be a couple months at least. Our battalion isn't in very good shape, as most of the fellows had malaria from one to several times, so we might be here longer than others. The weather is changeable, rainy then bright days but no freezing. While I think of it, you might send my rubbers. Could use them on certain state occasions. Had a letter from Lloyd, written last October. It must have gone the long way around. Will write him a line one of these days. Have been back two weeks today. Will begin work at noon so I'll have to get going. We're civilized now and war white when on duty - more work for the laundry. Suppose you are busy as usual. It was a pleasure being with you. Hope I can make it again before too long. Love, Maurice
