3 My plans weren't that definite in September, or I'd never have started this trek toward an M.A. He is very wonderful, very super...and I don't think we're going to change our plans. Our marriage depends on a couple of things, so this announcement is subject to change. That's why I'm asking you to keep it to yourself. If I'm married this spring, I'll be going East...his home is in Massachusetts. He was rejected by the army because of his eyes. I was so happy to hear all about the things you'd been doing. Bessie wrote that she thought you very courageous in the way you took the fact of your husband's leaving for Africa. It must be very hard to be separated...I know how I feel with David one thousand four hundred and twenty-four miles away! But you do have fortitude, Laurie...you always have had! Didn't you live through a whole year of rooming with me!! You know, I often think of that, and of our nice room. Do you remember how you and Ruth Baumgartner leaned out the window to say "goodbye" the spring of that year? Anyhow, seriously, I've always admired your strength of character. It was always good to know you. Do you remember our great visits with Betty White? We listened to the coronation of the present
