1721 D Ave. NE. Cedar Rapids, IA Sept 29, 1944 Dear Mrs. Davis, I was so glad to have your address, Business has been slow on enrollments, normal on procedure, and hectic on community relations. Last Friday I nearly sent you an S.O.S. The fishermen departed on schedule and arrived in due time but since then we have all been rather neglected. I left before mail time today but so far no mail has arrived for the hospital. Now about last Friday!!! Thursday Mrs. Fellwock had a call from a woman who said three children had been left with her while the mother had a baby, and that the father refused to take any responsibility, She refused to give her name nor would she make an appointment to see Mrs Lynch. About 9:30 a.m. Friday we got the next chapter. Mrs. Fellwock called and in a voice palpitating with excitement announced, "This is an emergency. Call Miss Strahan at Taylor at once. A woman is having a miscarriage & has three other little children" I know I shouldn't be in the picture but tried to call Miss Strahan. She didn't seem to realize that noone could communicate with her unles she quit using her phone.
