2 been doing, it is not as yet sufficiently remunerative for me to declare myself financially independent. Last night I attended the second (free) concert of the Bach Festival. The first took place in the afternoon and I was forced to miss it on account of working; it was an organ recital by Marcel Dyone'. However I shall hear him tomorrow and the next night in a Cesar Franck cycle. Today I think I shall absorb some more Bach; this afternoon is a chamber music concert and to night is the B minor Mass. Also, last week I got myself taken to the San Francisco Opera Company's performance of Tristan and Isolde with Kirsten Flagstad and Lauritz Melchior - it was magnificent.
