Monday 3 January 1938 Dear Dad & Mary, Please excuse the stationery but it is the only type available at the moment - I am working in Blayney's office, guarding $40,000 worth of jewels belonging to Miss Lombard. Also my apologies for the tardiness of this letter. Although you flagrantly disobeyed my orders, thank you very very much for the many Christmas presents. You are far too generous and it makes me feel rather ashamed that I am unable to do something for you. You certainly knew what to get at any rate - particularly with regard to the travelling kit, which is beautiful and the pyjamas which I certainly needed. Thank you very much indeed. John sent me a book: Dr. Rhine's New Frontiers of the Wind, and I must confess that I did not send him anything. Jo sent some lovely hanks which she shouldn't have done.
