Labour Day 9/4/39 Dear Dad and Mary - The reason I did not write to thank you for the money was because I was awaiting the letter from Dad which Mary said was forthcoming. Anyway, thank you very much indeed for the cash; it was a very great assistance, I assure you. Things are very much the same with me, I am sorry to say. Please do not think that I am stalling - I have looked and am looking for every possible kind of work, but the difficulty is always the same: lace of experience. That is why I believe the studio proposition is the best for me, because my year's work at Warner's served to familiarize me with the industry to some extent. Nor have any of these deals dissolved into thin air; it just takes time and patience to get in.
