the rest of the company consists of Fritz Fehling (Professor of German here), Sherman Conrad (grad. assistant in English - B.A. Harvard), Scholes, and myself. We should be in New York sometime Saturday and then leave for Boston on Monday, remaining there until the second of January; we will not return through New York. I wish that the trip were a little shorter - that is, I wish we were leaving later and coming back sooner, so that I could get home. As it is, I shall to come to Dubuque on the way back. If, for any reason, you prefer that I do not make this trip, please let me know before Thursday; if I do not hear from you, I shall go ahead. Again, I say I regret that I will be unable to be with on Christmas. I hope you will have pleasant holidays. Love, Joseph
