Tuesday 12/10/40 Dear Dad and Mary - Thank you for your joint letter, which I have just received. Sorry about the difficulty with the checks - it never used to be this way, but the banks are evidently taking no chances. Everything is about the same - my class work is fine - I have an A standing in both Greek and Literary Criticism, and the teaching continues to be interesting and exhausting. If this were all I had to do, it would be all right, but I have been unable to touch my thesis for weeks, much less begin preparing for the M.A. exams. I have done a little radio work too - Tom has a fifteen-minute broadcast (lecture on the English language) every Saturday at 11:30 A.M. and I have taken this twice recently. This is interesting also, and the reports on my diction and voice quality in general were most favorable. I am in an awful rush, as usual. I think your new stationery is indeed handsome, Mary - and I think also that it is you people who should be advised to take it easy. Love, Joseph
