3736 12th St. N.E. Washington, D.C. 23 March 1942 Dear Dad - This was certainly an exciting day for both Mary and me, what with the arrival of present for both of us; thank you very much indeed. The coat you sent me is not only extremely handsome, but it is also a perfect fit - how you managed that I do not know. Anyway, it is the best looking coat of its type I have yet seen. Mary is also thrilled about the blouses you sent in addition to the skirt. We will send you the money for these things very soon. I wish to thank you also for sending the suitcase which arrived her intact and which I have had occasion already to use (the notes inside it, I mean). I did not realize before I left that I would have to cause you so much trouble, and I think it is about at and end now. You have certainly been grand and generous (over)
