I think Mary has told you about my Civil Service appointment which begins the first of April. Although I am starting with the rating and salary only of Junior Typist (that being the extent of my present C.S. qualifications, I have been assured of very quick advancement both in status and in remuneration, and, what is most important, I will be doing, even from the start, work which is of interest to me; specifically, my job will be about 50 percent. writing (articles for magazines and newspapers) and 50 percent. editing. The job is in the Public Relations department (the same department in which many work in the NCCS - hence the same kind of work), and for this circumstance I am indebted to an old friend from Iowa U., Carol Gebuhr; I mean to say, I could have gotten and appointment without his help, but probably not a writing and editing appointment.
