3 me to the head of the Public Relations department and in general facilitated the whole process. I have not by any means given up the intention of returning to the academic life, but I do not plan to do so before the end of the war. Meantime, I think the experience and writing practice I will have in the Civil Service Commission will do me no harm. Mary and I both hope that you will change your mind about coming East this spring - that is, we hope you will decide to come. We are both going to try to get home this summer, at the same time if possible, but I understand, for my part, that vacations in Civil Service are extremely scarce at the present time. Anyway, please do come to New York via Washington (or vice versa) soon. Thank you again for the coat - I cannot tell you how pleased I am with it - it is really beautiful. Love, Joseph
