tooth - pick, & pressed with a phial, which must be carefully corked. Affair of Rose. 2 - Gather a quantity of hundred leaf, or any other fragrant rose, & pick the petals carefully from the cups. Then arrange in a glazed earthen-ware jar in a wide mouthed glass bottle, first a layer of rose petals sprinkled with a little salt. - Then a thin layer of cotton (absorbent preferred) impregnated with olive oil, or oil of [benne?], &c until the jar is full. Tie a piece of oil silk or bladder over the top so that all moisture will be excluded, then set the vessel where it will receive the full heat of the sun for 15 days. then express the oil from the mass of leaves & cotton. Essence of Roses. ([illegible]) Place in a glazed earthen-ware jar alternate layers of rose petals & dry salt until the jar is full. Cover the jar with a saucer weighted down , & set in the cellar for 40 days. Then strain through a piece of thin cloth, pressing
