Sliced Cucumber Pickle. (Cora) Good sized cucumbers such as one used on table, Mash & dry but do not peel. Slice thin sprinkle with salt, let stand 3 hrs. To 2 doz cucumbers add 2 qts vinegar, 6 oz white mustard seed, 1 1/2 oz celery seed, six or more if you like,) onions, sliced thin, Mix thoroughly, not to be used for several weeks. Okra Soup. Mrs. S. J. Dorsett. To make 1/2 gal of soup scald, peel & cut small a pint of tomatoes. Slice thin from 8 to 10 pods of okra. Cut & scrape 2 tender ears of corn. & cut 2 onions small. Put all together in a kettle with a heaping tablespoon of butter & sufficient water to allow for boiling at least two hours. Cook slowly, the longer it cooks the better it is, then the ingredients will be yellow & tender. When thoroughly cook add half a level teaspoon of soda. put in a little thickening & add half a pint of milk. Season to taste.
