To color Red 1 pound madder to 2 pounds cloth 2 ounces compound. soak the madder overnight. In the morning let it boil up gradually & then put in the compound. Bran starch Take wheat bran pour cold water on it - mix it well, & let it stand several days to sour. Then strain the bran, & the starch will settle in the water. It is superior to sale starch & may be used cold or hot. To make Camphor Ice. Miss Clara Kimball. Take 5 cents gum camphor 5 cents spermacetti & 5 cents white wax. cut fine & mix with 1 teaspoon of sweet or olive oil then simmer till thoroughly mixed - or till the gum camphor is all dissolved. Glycerine Ice can be made in the same way using glycerine oil in place of sweet oil.
