November 12, 1943 Pomeroy, Iowa Dear Lloyd: I was awfully glad to hear from you and I would like to be with you prowling around those old engineering works, that is I would be glad to now since the pests have been removed. From what I have read about them I gather that actually seeing those big jobs of early days makes you respect the old times a little more. Am up home visiting with Mother, had quite a journey on the train (short of gos tickets) You know this is Podunk so to speak and had to breeze thru our town on the limited and then come back on the local. Have already had some of my favorite dishes however. Plenty of snow up here, some of the roads were blocked for several days - none at C.R. My brothers-in-law say there are plenty of pheasants but they are wild by this time, don't feel I have the ambition to go after them, may get the fever though - my nephew is on furlough from the Coast Guard, he might talk me into going. Kinda getting squared around for stone curling - did you know we sold your crusher? rather gave it away I should say!
