July 22nd 1864 Friday morning at 1 AM we was ordered on the ship as soon as we all got on the vessel shoved out and turned down stream for the gulf about 9 AM we passed Fort Jackson and Fort Philip at 1 PM we was sout of the mouth of the river into the Gulf but stuck on the bar where we lay the remainder of the day The 156th 158th and 175 N. York Regt was on board with us
