8th Month of the year August 1th 1864 Monday morning was cool and pleasant The vessel took up anchor at 4 AM and moved on up the Potomac on their was to Alexandria We got to Alexandria half past 1 PM we passed several Forts before we got into the City. We could see the Doam of the white house when we was 10 miles distant from Washington.
