Sept 3d 1864 Saturday morning was cool and pleasant we was ready at 4 AM to march but did not go till 7 AM we marched to within 1 1/2 miles of Berriesvill and camped for a few hours at 6 PM we was ordered to march and about the same time we heard the artilery and infantry a playing very rapidly in the direction of Berryvill we marched about 1 1/2 mile to the East of the town
