Sept 20th 1864 Tuesday morning we was up at 3 AM ready to march. We started about 7 AM towards strawsburg at 11 AM we passed through New Town about 1 PM we passed through Middle town some 14 miles from Winchester we then crossed Cedar Creek and marched some 2 miles and camped for the night. The enemy was close to us in our front. We was marched up on a high point close to the Blue Ridge mountain. on our right the Aliganid extended along in high points
