4. Zinc dust method (10) The [metal?] oxides are first weighed and then rubbed with zinc dust, about an equal volume, and placed in a porcelain [?]. This mixture is covered with a layer of zinc dust + heated [?] from 5 - 8 minutes over a [?] lamp. The cold mass is easily separated from the [?] and transferred to a flask [??] + [?] washed with sulphuric acid (2 of acid - 3 of water) and the washing poured upon the melt. [?] acid is added to the latter and the [?] boiled. There is no need to guard against the oxidation of the iron as none takes place. Zinc dust is better than [?] as it dissolves more readily. If any iron is contained in the zinc dust or [?], it must be determined + weighed quantities of the former [??] the amounts of iron [?]. This method is far below most of the others.
